PF administration from Outlook and ESM/ADUC:Whats Different.

Public folder administration from Outlook and ESM/ADUC : Whats Different.

There are few things about public folder like how it  can be created differently from outlook and from ESM and also how it can be different when it comes to managing it for ADUC/ESM and Outlook.

Have you ever tried creating a Public folder using special character form Exchange System Manager?

I tried but failed and I guess everyone should fail...

But if you ever want a public Folder that looks like "exchange/Server/Rocks@someplace" you can do so by creating it from outlook.

Okay I know many will say, that's old news . But I know many who do not know that

Another case:

You have a mail enabled public folder called "PF_EmailAddress", and there are many users who have send as permission on it. Kind of a group.

You also have a restricted Distribution List called "No spam". "No Spam" has allowed only one distribution list to send mail to its members. That one distribution List is called "Important mails"

We need to allow users who have send as permission from mail enabled Public folder "PF_emailaddress" to send email to DL "No Spam "

I am not able to add "PF_emailaddress" to receive email from list on "No Spam"

The only way I was able to do that was to add "PF_emailaddress" to "important Mails" from outlook.( GAL )

This public folder is not hidden from GAL.

I am not able to do this form ESM/ADUC.

So ...

Can we add a mail enabled public folder to a distribution list from active directory users and computers : No.

We can only do that from outlook.

Would love to hear from anyone who has more of such things to share.

Cheers

Dominic
