Using MFCMAPI:
===========
· Obtain MFCMAPI and copy it to the Exchange server. You can also run this from your workstation if need be.
· Create a profile for a mailbox that resides on the same server in which the Public Folder was deleted from. This mailbox needs Service Account admin rights on the Exchange server.
· Choose Session, and then Logon and Display Stores
· Choose the profile created above, and then select OK
· Double-click the Public Folders entry
· In the new window for the Public Folders; expand Public Root
· Expand IPM_SUBTREE, and then navigate to the folder which contained the Public Folder which was deleted.
· Right click the folder and then select "Open Deleted Sub Folder Table"
· A new window opened for the Deleted Public Folders; expanded the top-level item.
· The deleted folders are now listed
· Navigate to & highlight the folder you wish to recover, right click it and select "Restore Deleted Folder".
· Enter the name for the restored folder and select the checkbox "COPY_SUBFOLDERS" to recover subfolders as well. Click OK.
Note: If there are no subfolders, you will get an error when attempting the recovery. If that is the case, then try to recover the folder again and then do not select the checkbox.
If you already have public fodler replication set to different servers, it is not that tough to get the deleted items back. Key is do it early.
If none of the above steps work, then you will need to restore the public store to an offline recovery server and then extract the contents of the folder to PST and then reimport the data using Outlook. You will lose permissions using this method, but at least you will get your data back.
