Populate assistant field in GAL under user properties.
Hi All,
One of my client wants to populate his assistant's name under GAL.If you see the user's properties in Global Address List, you will find the assistant field likewise the city, address, department etc.
I did not find the assistant field in active directory user's properties but using ADSIedit I have specified the value for assistant field however it's not getting populated in GAL.
Do you guys have any idea about this ? Do I need to do any changes in Schema or something?
Regards,
Prasad

Open ESM ---Expand Recipeints --- Expand Details templates ------ Click on English (If this is the language you are using) --- Right pane select User and go to its properties and do some research over there I think this is the place you will find your answer

Thanks Allwyn,
The method you told me is about adding any new field under the user's properties.I can see the assistant field but not the value which I have specified under User's properties using ADSIedit.

I think Galmod32.exe should help.
GALMOD (or GALMOD32.EXE) is a utility that works with Microsoft Outlook that allows a user to update certain attributes in the Exchange 5.5 directory. It was developed by Microsoft Consulting Services with assistance from the Exchange Team and originally shipped on the Back Office Resource Kit and then later on the Exchange 2000 Resource Kit. It is an "unsupported" utility.

Alternatively..U can go to adsiedit and populate the attribute msExchAssistantName with the assistant's name for the user...wait for AD replication and check from OL.

Rohit
I am not able to see sexchAssistantName attribute.I think
By default this attribute is not configured to replicate to the Global Catalog servers in the organization, therefore it will never end up in the Schema settings.

The attribute is there by default.
adsiedit>domain nc>user properties-- msExchAssistantName...populate it with assistant's name.

Mark Attributes for Inclusion in the Global Catalog
Sometimes, it might be necessary to include certain user attributes in the Global Catalog (GC) that are not included in the GC by default. For example, one common practice among large companies is to mark the user attribute, employeeID, for GC replication. Now, an Active Directory Enabled application could query the GC for an employeeID and get the resulting user object.
To mark an attribute for inclusion in the Global Catalog:
1.Run the Active Directory Schema MMC snap-in.
2.Select the Attributes container.
3.Right-click the attribute you want to modify and select Properties.
4.Enable the Replicate this attribute to the Global Catalog checkbox.

Hi
I have changed 'assistant' field in the details template MMC add-in to 'Blackberry'. The 'Blackberry' field now appears in the GAB users general tab where 'assistant' used to be.(that was the easy bit !!) . I cant seem to find where to find enter the free text for this field now... Have tried AD schema add-in attributes for msExhassistantname, but that was already set to Replicate to Global catalaogue.
Any ideas please?
