OWA and VPN
OWA and VPN
A new feature in OWA is the remote document access feature. Normally to access a UNC path like \\server\share , the users need to be on the local network or VPN to the LAN. With document access feature after the user logs on to OWA can normally access his/her mails, calendar and internal file shares. So if you have Exchange 2007 and are still using VPN just to connect to your internal shares then why not use OWA for the same task without VPN.
What about file level security?
Of course …File level security is enabled on the network shares. It’s activated as a part of remote access security for the user to the remote document access share privileges.
RPC over HTTPS is now called “Outlook Anywhere”. Nice Term provided the bandwidth is good. Otherwise it’s “Frustration Anywhere”.
I know and you know; VPN does more than just file share access. So do not uninstall that cute software your company gave to VPN into corporate LAN.
